Beware of EZ Pass Text Scams

Scammers are sending fake text messages that appear to be from EZ Pass tolling authority, claiming you owe a toll or violation fee. These messages often include a link and demand immediate payment to avoid late fees or legal action. They’ve been reported in multiple states and may reference real agencies like “EZPass NY,” “MassDOT,” or the “PA Turnpike.”

These messages are scams. Official EZ Pass agencies do not send unsolicited payment requests by text, and real notices will never use threatening language or direct you to unofficial websites. If you’re ever unsure, visit the agency’s official website by typing the URL directly into your browser.

Security Tip
Be wary of links in texts claiming to be from toll services — especially if you haven’t recently used a toll road. Legitimate agencies won’t ask you to click on a link to make a surprise payment. When in doubt, go directly to your EZ Pass account through the official site.
